Moraltel Secure Phone System Security
TLS & SRTP Origin and Purpose.
As telecommunications began to merge with the internet in the early 2000’s, businesses that use phone systems began to take advantage of the inevitable VoIP phone system.
VoIP phone systems are extremely easy to maintain in comparison to the analog or legacy phone systems of the past. VoIP phone systems carry extensive features and functionality that include dial tone, auto attendants, unified messaging and contact center interactions. Features and Functionality of VoIP phone systems are very easily updated by the service provider in the cloud. This provides miraculous benefits with no effort needed by the subscribers of the service.
In addition to the convenient updates in the cloud, some VoIP phone system companies provide Auto Provisioning. Here at Moraltel Secure, we proudly provide Auto Provisioning to all of our customers. Auto Provisioning enables end users of VoIP phones a plug-n-play set up, allowing you to easily plug the phone into a router and electrical outlet to start using the service right away. In less than five minutes, you and your agents are all set to make and receive phone calls.
While we reap the benefits of VoIP, it’s important that the merit it holds is maintained. Over the years, we’ve come in contact with businesses that take the technology they use in their business very seriously. When shopping for a new phone system, they express concerns about phone system security.
During the start of the internet, media took it upon themselves to educate consumers about internet safety. Over 2.5 decades ago, we learned of how ecommerce websites are made safe enough for consumers to reach for their credit card and place an order for a product or service while shopping at home.
The same type of internet security attention is being given to VoIP data, and Moraltel Secure has placed this on a high priority level.
There are two aspects of VoIP phone system security that needed to be addressed by Moraltel Secure. These are:
- How each call is securely authenticated at the beginning of the call.
- How phone conversation audio of each call is protected from eavesdropping.
Extensive research, testing and development involving TLS and SRTP has enabled these aspects of VoIP phone systems to become completely safe from intrusion. As a result, Moraltel Secure is able to encrypt and securely process hundreds or even thousands of calls monthly for your business.
Let’s discuss more about TLS and SRTP.
How each call is securely authenticated uses TLS:
TLS (Transport Layer Security) is a certificate-based encryption method utilized to protect the signaling that initiates the beginning of the phone call and securely closes it at the end without a trace of credential information being revealed. This handshake creates a protective tunnel between your phone and the Moraltel Secure network. A secure connection is automatically requested for each call while using Moraltel. This is authentication that validates no one else is able to register with your credentials onto the Moraltel Network and use your service. This quick and secure process occurs instantaneously and is not in any way perceivable to the caller or call recipient, as their objective is to simply participate in a phone conversation with each other after dialing out or being dialed.
How phone conversation audio of each call is protected from eavesdropping uses SRTP and DTLS:
CORRECTLY ADD HOW CONNECTUC USES DTLS TO THIS FIRST PARAGRAPH. ALSO ADD DTLS TO THE TOP OF THE PAGE. THE BOTTOM PARAGRAPH NEEDS TO BE CENTERED WITH AN AQUA COLORED HORIZONTAL LINE OVER IT. SRTP (Secure Real-time Transport Protocol) keeps voice conversations private by encrypting the voice audio of each call for our softphone as well as some of our desk phones as well. These types of audio include two-party conversations, voicemail, and conferences. Voice is converted into encrypted data packets. The data packets are quickly delivered securely over the internet. The data packets remain undecipherable and tamper resistant to intruders. Some of our Yealink desk phones have SRTP and TLS being used together, therefore providing the ultimate protection in both security aspects of your VoIP phone calls. Moraltel Secure knows communicating with your customers means a lot to you. Not only is voice call quality important, but the confidentiality of your phone calls provide assurance and integrity to your business as customers call you.
TLS & SRTP are included free of charge with all Moraltel voice services. If you would like to introduce TLS & SRTP Encryption to your business, we welcome you to fill out the Sales Inquiry form or call 1-844-200-5171.
